Bing Crosby Residence Historic Resource Evaluation
Location: Hillsborough, California
Client: KC Family Investments
Date Completed: 2025
Located in the affluent San Mateo County residential enclave of Hillsborough, the Bing Crosby Residence is an impressive mansion designed in the French Chateau style by Bakewell & Weihe. Originally built in 1930 for sportsman and racehorse enthusiast Lindsay Howard, the property traded hands several times until 1965, when the famous singer and movie star Bing Crosby, and his second wife Kathryn, bought the property. Entirely intact from the Crosby family’s tenure, the mansion, which stands on a 5.365-acre parcel, is one of the most architecturally and historically notable properties in Hillsborough.
In 2025, the Crosby family hired VerPlanck Historic Preservation Consulting to prepare a historic resource evaluation (HRE) for the property prior to putting it on the market for the first time since 1965. In spite of its prominent place in Hillsborough, the property had ever been researched or evaluated before.
