PROJECTS
LOCATION: Martinez, California
CLIENT: City of Martinez
DATE COMPLETED: 2009
In 2009, the City of Martinez, the county seat of Contra Costa County, hired Knapp Architects and Kelley & VerPlanck Historical Resources Consulting to survey the city's historic downtown and a portion of its industrial waterfront along Carquinez Strait.
The survey area, which consisted of roughly 150 commercial and industrial properties, comprised some of the oldest and most significant properties in the historic city, whose roots precede the Gold Rush.
Mr. VerPlanck's primary contributions to this project included preparing the Downtown Martinez Historic Context Statement. He also prepared approximately 150 DPR 523 A (Primary) forms for every property within the survey area and approximately 35 DPR 523 B (Building, Structure, & Object) forms for the most significant properties in the area. As part of this project Mr. VerPlanck identified a compact historic district centered along Main Street in downtown Martinez.
